SDMA Weekly COVID Update Addition

SDMA Weekly COVID Update Addition
Posted on 10/01/2020

Hello SDMA Families and Staff.

This is just a quick reminder that I will be hosting a virtual Q&A session for SDMA families tonight. If you have questions that you would like answered about our school district, please join me at 7:00 pm for this online meeting at: meet.google.com/wyy-xmcw-wzv or dial in at 605-412-8087 (PIN 627 508 690). Questions may be submitted through the meeting chat feature or by emailing me prior to the meeting at [email protected] .

Also, to follow up on yesterday's data report, please note that some of the student COVID cases in the SDMA have now been deemed "recovered", and a number of students have been released from the mandatory isolation period. With 2827 students participating in the in-person instructional model, we currently have 6 active student cases (0.21%) in the SDMA with the following breakdown:

  • Menomonie High School-    5
  • Menomonie Middle School- 1
  • Menomonie Elem. Schools- 0

There was a bit of confusion for some families with yesterday's report not listing any elementary student cases, but that number is correct. Any notices sent out this year about cases at our elementary schools have not referred to student cases.

Of the 3 staff cases mentioned in yesterday's report, 1 has been deemed "recovered", so there are currently 2 active staff cases in the SDMA.

As anticipated, the number of student exclusions in the SDMA has already begun to drop. Today 7.11% of the students in the SDMA were excluded from school due to close contacts, symptoms, or other COVID-19 concerns (down from 9.52% yesterday).

The current breakdown of SDMA exclusions includes:

  • Menomonie High School-   11.68% (down from 17.35% reported yesterday)
  • Menomonie Middle School-  6.33% (down from 6.49%)
  • Wakanda Elementary-          4.98% (down from 7.17%)
  • River Heights Elementary-    6.34% (down from 6.65%)
  • Oaklawn Elementary-            2.23% (down from 4.46%)
  • Knapp Elementary-               1.35% (same as 1.35%)
  • Downsville Elementary-         0.00% (down from 2.63%)

Sorry for the extra message this week, but I know that some families are very interested in the district's data. All COVID-19 cases are concerning, but this is really good news for our school district.

Please encourage your children and members of your household to Wash Up, Back Up, and Mask Up.

Thank you.
