SDMA Update - January 17, 2023
Posted on 01/17/2023

Dear SDMA Families and Staff,

With the calendar now flipped to 2023, school district officials are busy working toward the second semester of the 2022-2023 school year while also ramping up planning for 2023-2024. Here is a link to the January Highlight on Youth Report, which demonstrates some of the great things that happened in the SDMA over the past month.

In planning for next year, there will be some changes with the district's administrative staff.  Both Oaklawn Elementary Principal Lori Smith and Knapp Elementary Principal Kristin Humphrey will be retiring at the end of the school year. While we will miss Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Humphrey next year, the school district is committed to conducting a thorough search and finding great candidates for these positions. Please review this information about the search process for the next principals at Oaklawn and Knapp Elementary Schools.

During the January 9 school board meeting, a member of the community shared an invitation with the school board for an upcoming event that is open to the public where the Fierce Freedom group will be presenting information about human trafficking. This presentation and the groups putting on the presentation are not endorsed by the school district, but in accordance with district policy, this invitation is being shared as a cultural opportunity that may have educational value.

Lastly, the school district would like to share information for families who might qualify for a discount on internet services. For more information, please visit this website to see if your family might be eligible.

Have a great week!
