Back to School
Posted on 01/04/2015

Hello SDMA Families, Staff, and Stakeholders.

Happy New Year!  Our school district has much to look forward to in 2015.

As you probably know, the winter break is over and school resumes tomorrow in Menomonie.

Just in time for a return to school, it looks like we will be dealing with some very cold weather this week.  Today, I communicated with the bus company, and Mr. Howe assured me that the buses have been started over break and we should be good to go for a regular start tomorrow morning.

While the decision to delay or cancel school is made based on the specifics surrounding each situation, we will generally have school on cold weather days unless the windchill is forecasted to be sustained at less than -40 degrees.

Whether or not we have school, it is important that students and parents take proper precautions to keep everyone safe in cold weather conditions. To help, here is a link to some windchill information from the National Weather Service: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/winter/windchill.shtml .

Please also remember that no matter what decision is made for the school district, it is still a parent decision as to whether or not you choose to send your child to school on a particular day (within attendance guidelines provided by state statute).

Thank you for your understanding as we deal with these difficult decisions.

Stay warm!
