Non-Resident Families-Open Enrollment

Wisconsin's Open enrollment program allows students to apply to attend a public school outside of the district in which they reside.

Who can apply?

Any Wisconsin resident in 4K to grade 12 may apply to attend a nonresident school district under the open enrollment program

When can parents apply?

There are 2 ways parents can apply. The regular period and the Alternative.

1) Regular Open Enrollment Application Period opens February 5 - April 30, 2024 at 4:00pm for the 2024-25 School Year.
The best way to apply is online here

2) The Alternative application allows students to apply for open enrollment at any time during the school year. The application for open enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year will be available starting July 1st and can be found here. Please complete the Alternative application and email it to: [email protected].

Once your open enrollment application has been approved, you can then complete the SDMA enrollment packet.

Open enrollment is only for families who do not reside in the district. Families who live in the Menomonie Area District and want to transfer to a different elementary school should refer to the In-District Transfer page.
