SDMA Update- May 9, 2023
Posted on 05/11/2023

It has been another great month in the School District of the Menomonie Area.  Here is a link to the May Highlight on Youth Report.

There are only 17 student days left in the 2022-2023 school year, but we plan to finish strong in each of our schools. Even though it is not uncommon for students to get a little squirrely toward the end of the year, there is much learning that needs to take place before June 2.

Unfortunately, it has been reported that recently there has been a slight uptick in bad behaviors where some students have been heard making inappropriate comments related to people's race. Teachers and staff members have been instructed to be on the lookout for any bullying and harassment, and not to tolerate any behaviors where students are using inappropriate language, especially racial slurs or epithets. Parents, please talk with your children about this and help them learn the importance of treating everyone with respect. Also, please do not hesitate to talk with your child's teacher or the building principal if reports of bad behavior are shared with you at home.

Please note that the district has been searching for a MMS World Languages teacher since March. With no suitable candidates to date, this program is in jeopardy of needing to be cut or moved to a virtual offering for next year. If you would like to help the district fill this position, please share today's social media post and/or direct any possible candidates to the HR department.

It is a big job to teach nearly 3,400 students, but by working together between home and school, we have a lot to celebrate from this past year. Thank you for your continued support and thank you to everyone who is taking the opportunity to recognize our teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week.

Have a good evening.
