SDMA Update - May 25, 2022
Posted on 05/25/2022

Dear SDMA Families and Staff,

Like you, we are shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Texas on Tuesday. We share in the heartbreak we are all feeling for the families who have lost a loved one due to this senseless act of violence.

Schools should and must be a place where students and staff feel completely safe and secure. The health and safety of all students and staff in the SDMA is always a top priority, and we recognize the importance of relationships as students, staff, families, and community members all work together to keep our schools safe.

The district has made many security enhancements in recent years, and each SDMA school has a comprehensive safety plan with safety drills that are routinely practiced by students and staff. The district also partners with the Menomonie Police Department to have two Youth Service Officers assigned to our schools.

We know that children and teens will process this news in different ways. Counselors are available in our school buildings to assist students who may need some extra support, and Employee Assistance Program (EAP) resources are available for all district staff. We encourage any students to stop by the counseling office as needed.

Please join us in keeping the students, staff, and families of the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District in our thoughts at this time.

Sincerely,

Joe Zydowsky
